The Ongoing Journey for Capital Returns

How did we start Gate Capital? It was based on a desire by two individuals to use an investment firm and its ecosystem to find a better way to invest money for clients. That unshakeable destination has shaped the journey for Sanjay, Justin and colleagues.

Gate Capital Group is an investment management firm. It has always focussed on doing the right thing for its clients.

“RC²”

The base concept was to find a means to invest funds to ensure both: the return of any invested capital; while enjoying an acceptable return on capital (so-called “RC²”). This concept entailed insightful yet prudent investing to realise above average returns. The ingredients include clever choices (based on company-sector-geographical and market dynamics); the manner of investment (equity, derivatives and other asset classes); timing; duration (decision milestones for volatility plays and “happy to hold”) as well as productive costs.

As with any endeavour (such as building a house or tending to a garden) there are plans and choices made and monitored to create and maintain lasting value.

Sanjay and Justin fashioned Gate on that RC² premise.

This approach has proven that it is possible to achieve RC² for UK based HNWs as well as foreign investors and Family Offices; in spite of a decade of turmoil - choppy seas, if you will - that seems to have no end.

Good ship

The good ship “Gate” has bobbed the waves, always cleaving to its lodestone. It has weathered market squalls, sector consolidation and regulatory change in the nine years since Sanjay and Justin started their voyage. Their ongoing investments in administrative as well as back-office functions have been the steadying keel with Helen, Neil and team. The deck manned by the traders: Bruce, Ben and Clive - who fill the sails.

The two owners, at first blush, make an unlikely pair. The stout and punchy Gujju trader matched with the tall, waspish entrepreneurial Establishment figure. One with twists and the other who enjoys twisting. Things ‘India’ provide a red thread for them both. They have high energy, focused with a humorous glint in their eyes: scanning horizon, compass and vessel. They have been in lock-step with regard to delivering unquestioning personalised professional service to further investor outcomes. This focus is derived from a common sense and integrity that combines their differing perspectives and backgrounds.

What makes us special

Sound solutions are found. ‘Issues' are resolved. Challenge is encouraged to fire-proof any and all actions: client first; staff; viability of the Firm.

On this basis, whatever the weather, Gate continues to provide bespoke and personal investment management services to its discerning clients; who appreciate quality service and the prospect of RC².
